Yoga Tools for Life — a Day Workshop at The Lotus Room
Yesterday I took part in a yoga workshop at The Lotus Room hosted by the lovely Mikala and Yvette — I'm still feeling the amazing effects today despite being sat at my desk!
After practicing Sun Salutations, meditation, Moon Salutations and some chakra work I felt like I'd been on a drug binge (in the most positive way possible). My head was clear yet calm, my body energised and then cooled down to a comfortable state, and I felt so intensely satisfied.
One thing I particularly loved was the moon salutation. It's something I have looked into lately but hadn't got around to practicing, and following Yvette's lead we experienced a really cooling and releasing flow. I used to think it was bullshit that yoga affected your emotions and just saw it as a method of exercise, but over the years and the more I've practiced, I've realised how very wrong I was.
A simple cross legged forward bend was something that we practiced — something I've done often and just saw as another pose. But yesterday I experienced it in a whole different way. I was much more focused when in the pose, but I found that I was much more flexible in my hips and even managed to get my head to the floor. The thing that stood out most to me though was the way it made me feel. I felt like I could've easily fallen asleep in that pose. But as we stretched from side to side, it felt almost trippy to me. I think it's the one pose in my whole experience of yoga that I've felt so strongly.
It doesn't take an extravagant pose like a headstand to get more than you expect from yoga. Some of the others in the class might not have felt much from that particular pose. It's all about you and how you feel. Be selfish and let yourself focus on nothing but what you're doing at that time. For that hour, forget everyone else and their crap — it really is all about you.
The Lotus Room is an amazing little space, if you're in Lancashire I would definitely recommend a visit!
