Acro Yoga and Bikram at the Yoga Show.
There isn't much I love more than trying new things.
At the end of May the Om Yoga Show was held in Manchester, and I spent the weekend there pottering around the stalls and trying out the classes. To be in a huge space filled with everything yoga was amazing in itself.
The first new experience I tried was with the Hot Pod Yoga team. I've never tried hot or buckram yoga so I was really excited to see what it would be like. A one hour session in a 37 degree pod gets you sweating for sure, but I felt so chilled and comfortable and just felt my body melting into the poses so much easier.
When I came out I felt really refreshed and detoxified, and had the urge to just fill my body with good stuff. I loved the session, and would definitely make it a weekly thing if there was a class local to me. Recommend it highly — although make sure you're not a yoga newbie as it can be quite fast paced and you need a knowledge of the poses.
My absolute favourite part of the weekend was getting to try Acro Yoga with Eugene of Acro Yoga Dance. He guided me through an amazing routine that felt like nothing I've ever done before.
Yoga is obviously a very grounded thing, with lots of contact with the floor and quite solid surfaces. Experiencing it balancing on a guy's hands and feet was just something else — at first I felt a little off balance but felt myself relaxing into it and trusting him to keep me steady.
The poses I managed to achieve with his guidance were amazing, I never thought I'd be able to do anything like that! I'm going to be doing a DIY attempt soon… I've got a feeling it might not go as smoothly. Watch this space for the bloopers real!
